Be A Hero

Two men were shot dead by police this week on opposite sides of the USA, my home.

I’m sad for the men who were shot dead.

I’m sad for their families and friends.

I’m sad for the men who pulled the triggers.

I’m sad for their families and friends.

I’m sad for the witnesses.

I’m sad for black men who live fearing police men will kill them and leave their children fatherless.

I’m sad for police men who live fearing black men will kill them and leave their children fatherless.

There are no victors here, only victims.

Where are the heroes?

Those who not just want for peace and pray for peace, but work for peace.

Those who rise above the frightened dog in themselves.

Those who soothe the frightened child in others.

Those who see the hero in all others.

Those who encourage that hero to emerge.

Those who embrace death rather than steal the life of another.

Where are the heroes?

The heroes are both in us and in everyone around. We just have to set them free.

Imagine a world where all of the heroes are free, then take another step to make that world reality.
